PowerApps Overview PowerApps Platform was designed to empower Citizen developers to quickly interact with their data, solving business challenges their current systems were not designed to handle. A Citizen developer could be that person who knows Excel really well, or the PowerPoint wiz. The point is that familiarity with Office tools and you can start building PowerApps! PowerApps are also being coined as “no cliff” development tools. Meaning, once you reach your technical limits another can step in and continue to add/extend your solution.

PowerApps Overview Microsoft PowerApps is delivered as a PaaS Service or Platform as a Service on top of the Dynamics 365 platform. Microsoft has started referring to PowerBI, PowerApps and Microsoft Flow as the “Power Suite” of tools for Dynamics 365. While this is a cloud-based service, capabilities exist to connect to on-premises via gateways. A lot of new announcements (constantly, it seems) along with the Dynamics CE v9 release providing more updates to PowerApps and the Power Suite. Follow along on twitter for the latest news!

PowerApps: Canvas Vs Model PowerApps are available in 2 different formats: Canvas and Model If you are using Dynamics 365 today, you’re already using the 1st style which is a Model App. The app uses the Microsoft UI, controls etc. to present for your application needs. The second method, Canvas App, gives you control over the experience with the ability to implement custom UI design elements.

Types of Power Apps Canvas provides the most control of the UI, Model driven uses the same experience as Dynamics 365 Apps. Model Apps can only use CDS as your data source

Power Apps: Architecture Overview

So how do I get started with PowerApps? PowerApps comes embedded with your Office365 & Dynamics 365 Subscription Depending on your license type for D365, PowerApps may be included. You can either build PowerApps directly from the web browser or you can download the studio to your desktop. First-party applications like Microsoft SharePoint have added buttons to create PowerApps from lists – AUTOMAGICALLY  Apps that you build are automatically available to your organization and your admin can control the settings of who can use and distribute apps to the organization. Everyone (within your organization) can create simple power apps in minutes.

They have so many projects going on, they can hardly keep track of all the new solutions being developed On-site requirement gathering leaves the engineers wondering which components we have already built for customers Not having this data in a readily available format, doesn’t make it useful resulting in waste, and rebuilding components that already exist in our library Issue: Does your company need access to items you develop?
