1st English Settlements 1607...Jamestown, Virginia: 1st SUCCESSFUL ENGLISH COLONY (Virginia) Founded for ECONOMIC reasons-to find gold 1620…Plymouth, Massachusetts Founded by the Pilgrims/Puritans RELIGIOUS Freedom Jamestown was founded in 1607 Jamestown was founded for wealth and economic gain

Other Colonies Founded for Religious Freedom Rhode Island: ROGER WILLIAMS- Founded for religious freedom Pennsylvania: William Penn—Founded for QUAKERS Maryland: LORD CALVERT- Refuge for CATHOLICS
