Climate and weather Thailand is mainly known as a tropical and humid country during most of the year. The southern region of Thailand only has two seasons - the wet and the dry. But the seasons on the East and West side of the peninsular both run at different times compared to the south region. Overall the southern area of Thailand gets a lot of rain - around 2,400 millimetres every year - unlike the central and northern regions of Thailand.

Marine environment Thailand’s coastal waters have traditionally been rich and productive, characterised by a number of different species. However, more recently the marine animal populations in Thailand’s coastal waters are low in numbers - a result of fishing beyond the sea’s carrying capacity. The Gulf of Thailand has been particularly affected, so the country has started taking precautions.

Mayor Cities Thailand is a country in South Eastern Asia. There are 23 major cities in Thailand. Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand, Chiang Mai is a city were tourists come to purchase handicrafts from and Nachon Pathom is a city known for its tattoo festival.

Flora In Thailand there are three main types of tropical forests: monsoon forest, rain forest and mangrove forest. Thailand is known for it's flora with almost every tropical fruit tree, such as mangoes and papaya. You can find many different kinds of bamboo and over 27 000 different flowering species. Thailand shares its flora with the other countries and at present, there are 147 national parks and 108 forest parks.

Fauna The fauna variety in Thailand is amazing with 300 mammal species, 313 reptiles, 107 amphibians, more than 1000 bird species (10% of the world total known species). Also there is estimated 6000 insects. Elephants in Thailand have always been important to the Thai people. Long ago, they lived in the wild herds. The Thai warriors used to train young elephants to use in battle.
