WELCOME Our goal today is to give you some basic ABC’s of what to expect in 2nd grade Dual Immersion. Mrs. Gonzalez-Spanish class Mrs. Rossberg-English class Other second grade teachers: Mrs. Choi, Mrs. Le

Accelerated reader Purpose Choosing books Taking quizzes

Purpose The purpose of AR is to reinforce basic reading strategies such as recalling and describing. We want to encourage students to read books they enjoy. Students will develop better reading fluency when they read more often.

Choosing Books- IPICK I choose My Books Purpose- Why am I reading it? In my Reading Range – Is it at or above my AR reading level? Comprehend- Do I understand what I am reading? Know- Do I know most of the words?

Taking AR Quizzes Students will take quizzes at school. Quizzes may be taken during computer lab time on Mondays and Tuesdays. May be done during class time after completing their work. During their center time if that is one of their centers.

Behavior Every student is expected to demonstrate: Kindness Safety Responsibility Respect

CLASS DOJO Students that choose to follow the rules will earn Dojo Points and/or Super Scotties. Dojo Points will be cleared every Monday. Please review your child’s points to reflect on behavior every night. A class VIP will be selected every Monday from the Super Scotties tickets. Students are expected to walk and talk before the start of school. Parents may drop students off for walk and talk or join them.

BATHROOM POLICY Due to the rigorous requirements of the program, and to ensure that students are spending equal amounts of time in both languages, we encourage students to use the restroom before school, during recess, and at lunch. Students who need to use the restroom during instructional time will lose a DOJO point.
