Electrical Energy Transmission to a Cabin Created for CVCA Physics By Dick Heckathorn 16 March 2K + 5

The Problem Electricity energy is being transmitted on a wire of diameter 1.2 cm for a distance of 100 kilometers. It is being transmitted at the rate of 550 watts (Joules/sec). The wire has a total resistance of 16 ohms.

The Problem a. Find first the current and, secondly, the power loss when the potential difference between the two ends of the wire is 110 volts. What percent was lost?

The Problem b. Next, find the current and then the power loss when the potential difference between the two ends of the wire is 110,000 volts.

Current in Wires 110 Volts 110,000 Volts I = P/V 550 W / 100-V 550 W / 110,000-V 5 Amps 0.005 Amps

Power Loss 110 Volts 110,000 Volts Ploss = I2 * R (5-A)2 * 16-Ω (0.005-A)2 * 16-Ω 400 watts 4x10-4 watts
