Threat of Communism

Domino Theory Communism not only spread throughout Eastern Europe but also in Asia A new conflict emerged in Vietnam, a French colony that was taken over by Japan during WWII After Japan declared their surrender Vietnam’s communist leader Ho Chi Minh declared Vietnam independent France sent in troops to put down Ho Chi Minh and his army, which the U.S. aided because of the fear of domino Theory the belief that if one country fell to communism its neighbors would soon follow.

Korean War The Soviet Union occupied the Northern (Communist) area of Korea while the U.S. occupied the Southern( Democracy) area of Korea North Korean soldiers wanted to reunite all of Korea by force by sending in troops across the 38th parallel line which separated North and South Korea Korean War saw the U.S. and United Nations forces work together for the first time U.S. turned back the North Korean troops back to the North before China aided North Korea pushing back the U.S. and U.N. forces No change in Korea occurred as a result of the war and the North is still a communist country
