African American Soldiers White southern colonists did not want African Americans serving in the military British offered freedom to any slave that fought for them Washington then allowed for African Americans to serve in Continental Army Why would it be a challenge for the colonists to allow black soldiers? Why would it be a challenge for African Americans to be in the military?
