Agenda Intro & Warm up (15 minutes) Looking at the Rubric & Model (5-10 minutes) Writing the rough draft (30-50 minutes) Exit Ticket (5-10 minutes) Games (Remaining time)

Rubric for Writing Focus on Assigned Topic The entire essay is related to the assigned topic and allows the reader to understand much more about the topic. Organization The essay is very well organized. One idea follows another in a logical sequence with clear transitions. Spelling and Punctuation There are less than 4 spelling or punctuation errors in the final draft. Requirements All of the written requirements (# of paragraphs and sentences, header, and title, written in pen/typed) were met. Neatness The final draft of the essay is readable, clean, neat and attractive. It is free of erasures and crossed-out words. It looks like the author took great pride in it.

Tell a story about my experience at Philmont My Outline Tell a story about my experience at Philmont Beginning -Talk about how this trip became an opportunity (venture crew) -Talk about how impactful this trip was to me Middle -Talk about planning for the trip -Talk about the how we got there End -Talk about what I did during the trip -How the overall trip went/ how I felt about the trip

Make sure that... You head your paper (name, teacher name, subject, date) in the top left hand corner. Your essay has a title. You have at least 3 paragraphs. You have at least 15 sentences.

My Trip to Philmont In high school I used to be a part of a club called The Venture Crew. This club is a co-ed branch of the boy scouts, and we did many camping adventures together. It led to many of the best experiences in my life. One of the most memorable experiences was a two week backpacking trip to a place called Philmont Scout Ranch, which was in New Mexico. This trip took months of planning, training, and a ton of fundraising, but we managed to do it. We took a plane to Colorado, stayed there for a night and then took a bus down to the Philmont Scout Ranch. We had to spend a couple days down at the base camp to get accustomed to the much higher altitude (6000 feet). In this camp there are dozens of different hiking trails to choose from and we chose one of the most challenging trails because it included the most exciting activities. The activities included: rope tossing, branding, talent show singing, blacksmithing, axe-throwing, spar-poling, horseback riding, gun shooting, rock climbing, donkey racing, and cave touring. While we had to hike over one hundred miles in eleven days, it was well worth it because we got to see many breath taking views along with all of those fun activities. If I could do it all again I would, and I would also recommend an experience like that for anyone because it is truly the experience of a lifetime.

Exit Ticket If you had to improve your writing in any way, how would you do it? Answer in complete sentences (this answer should be about your writing in general). Example: If I had to improve my writing, it would be to improve ________. I think I need to improve _________ because___________________.

Playing Games Choose one: Play 1 game as a class (Ultimate werewolf) Split the class into smaller groups to play multiple games (Anomia, Square up, Spot it, Bananagrams, Quarto, Word Around, etc..)
