Defining Characterization Characterization is the process of revealing character to a reader or viewer. There are several methods of characterization:

Methods of Characterization What the character: What other characters: says or does not say (speech) Does or does not do (action/ inaction) thinks, feels, or has opinions on looks like, i.e., physical appearance or description Say or do not say about or around that character do or do not do around that character -vs- what they do or don’t do around other characters think, feel or what opinions they have about or towards that character
