Types of Nerve Cells Nervous tissue is made of 2 types of nerve cells 1. Neurons Conscious/unconscious thought processes Can be up to 1 meter in length (39 inches) Limited ability to repair themselves Cellular characteristics of neurons Cell body -main body contains nucleus Dendrites -receive information Axon -carries information away from cell

Types of Nerve Cells 2. Neuroglial cells (neuroglia)-cells that surround neurons Support neurons physically Repair tissue framework Destroy invading microorganisms Provide nutrients for neurons Regulate neuronal environment
