Warm Up 11/3/2015 What does saliva do? Why are enzymes important in digestion? What is peristalsis? What do you think mechanical digestion is? What does bile do?

And the answers are….. 1. saliva starts both mechanical and chemical digestion 2. Enzymes help break the food down into smaller pieces 3. peristalsis are involuntary muscle contractions that push the food through the digestive tract 4. Mechanical digestion is physically breaking the food down (like chewing) 5. chemical digestion is chemically breaking the food down (like enzymes)
