Presentation transcript:

Howard Class Newsletter Literacy Children will be exploring the wonder of words through poetry and focussing on the work of Michael Rosen. The children have enjoyed listening to the Owl and the Pussycat and On the Ning Nang Nong. If you have the opportunity to share these poems with children you may find the following websites useful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD-yG2XnxpU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpwAP36-w7E All About Me Our theme for the first half term of 2018 will be us! This will give us the opportunity to find out about shared experiences such as where we live and finding out about what makes us unique. We will learn about our bodies and how to live a healthy lifestyle, including staying safe. Please do not hesitate to contact any member of the Howard Class team if you have a question, we are always happy to help. In Geography will be finding how where we live relates to the four countries of the United Kingdom and surrounding seas. We will also look at seasonal and daily weather patterns in the UK, linking nicely to our science seasons work. Across the term, in art, we will explore the work of Jackson Pollock and create our own pictures inspired by this artist. We are also hoping to hold a ‘live art’ event linked to our literacy (details to follow!) Numeracy We will be looking at place value which will enable children to understand the value of each digit in a number. In addition we will be developing our skills in counting, comparing and ordering numbers. It would be helpful if you could support your children with their SMIRFs targets. Every child has the opportunity to read with an adult during guided reading sessions throughout the week. We will change all reading books every Friday. Spellings will be handed out weekly to Y1 and Y2 children. Reception children will receive work linked to their focus sounds later in the term.
