The Rock Cycle

What are we doing today? Objective I can use observation, inference, and data collection skills describe the rock cycle. Standard Develop a model to describe the cycling of Earth’s materials and the flow of energy that drives this process. Common Core Integrate quantitative information expressed in words with a version of that information expressed visually.

What is a Rock? A rock is a collection of minerals bound together.

Types of Rocks Sedimentary Igneous Metamorphic

Sedimentary Rocks Sedimentary rocks are formed by deposition of sediments on Earth’s surface or in water.

Igneous Rocks Igneous rocks are formed from magma or lava that has cooled or crystallized.

Metamorphic Rocks Metamorphic rocks are formed by the process of heat, pressure, or chemical change.
