Module Number 13 You Didn’t Match, Now What Module Number 13 You Didn’t Match, Now What? Options for borrowers who don’t move directly into residency or who don’t complete their program of study Paul S. Garrard Founder and President, PGPresents, LLC Independent Student Loan Consulting Spring 2019 2019 PGPresents, LLC - All Rights Reserved

You still have options On federal loans, you still have options You still have your grace periods on Direct Unsubsidized Loans* You still have 6 month post-enrollment deferment on Grad PLUS (Direct PLUS) Loans Deferment and forbearance still available Repayment plans still available, including income plans * You don’t lose your grace period on each loan, unless previously used

Postponement options* Work with your loan servicer Deferment** Multiple types, including unemployment and hardship deferment Forbearance** Multiple types, including discretionary Mandatory residency forbearance not available if not a resident * See www.StudentLoans.gov for details ** You are considered to be in good standing, credit protected

Repayment options Work with your loan servicer Time-driven plans Based on time period Income-driven plans Based on income and family size $0 calculated payments possible with no income

Some scenarios Planning to Match following year Use 6 month grace period then either request postponement until residency starts or start repayment, perhaps with income plan** Planning to enter workforce Use 6 month grace period then enter repayment, perhaps with income plan Borrowers with federal and private loans May need to use repayment flexibility on federal loans to stay current on private loans ** Assuming you have no remaining rotations/credits needed to graduate. If you are still enrolled at lest 6 credits you can will be reported as enrolled at least half-time (Financial Aid Office-TUC)

Final comments You can still manage your student loan debt, even if you don’t Match or complete your program Use all available resources to help stay current on your options FAO at your school Your loan servicer FREE information from PGPresents* * www.PGPresents.com
