Safe Food Handling and You Presented to you by: Haley Lydstone & Carly Lauraine KSC Dietetic Interns 2013 When should I wash my hands? Whenever you: Cough or sneeze Blow your nose After going to the bathroom Play with pets After chores or taking out garbage After playing with friends After touching toys or sport equipment And most important, before ALL meals and snacks! Safe hand-washing technique Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold) and add soap. Rub your hands together to make a lather and scrub really well! (Be sure to scrub the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails). Continue rubbing your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the "Happy Birthday" song from beginning to end twice. Rinse your hands well under running water.
