Chemical Reaction One or more substances are changed into a new substance by the breaking or forming of chemical bonds. Involves reactants and products

Enzymes Speeds up reactions without being used up. Catalysts are a type of enzyme Regulate a cell’s metabolism Have an active site Works on only one type of reaction. Lower activation energy (EA) The amount of energy required to start a reaction.

Types of Reactions Oxidation- Reduction- Loss of an electron, becomes more positive Reduction- Gains an electron, becomes more negative

Endothermic Exothermic Uses heat to perform the reaction (feels “cool” to the touch) Exothermic Produces heat in the reaction
