Jesus revealed God as Father

“Our father is Abraham,” they replied “Our father is Abraham,” they replied. “If you were Abraham’s children,” Jesus told them, “you would do what Abraham did. Why does it matter that we refer to God as Father?

Jesus denied the universal Fatherhood of God.

From one man he has made every nationality to live over the whole earth and has determined their appointed times and the boundaries of where they live. He did this so that they might seek God, and perhaps they might reach out and find him... CSB

though he is not far from each one of us ...though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’ Acts 17:26–28 CSB

We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. Ephesians 2:3 CSB

Why is understanding who you belong to important?

Through the regenerative work of the Holy Spirit, God becomes our Father.

Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. How can anyone be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked him. “Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born?” Jesus answered... CSB

...“Truly I tell you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:3–6 CSB

But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born, not of natural descent, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12–13 CSB

Therefore, God as Father, adopts us into his family.

For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons. You did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!“... CSB

...The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children, and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. Romans 8:14–17 CSB

“Abba” expresses warm affection and intimacy.

Omnipotence means that God is always in control of everything and he rules over all.

With this understanding of God’s omnipotence, how do you answer the question, “Can God make a rock so big that he can’t lift it?”

El Shaddai refers to God’s overpowering nature.
