What Does The Digestive System Do? The digestive system breaks down food, and juices produced by the stomach breaking down the food turning it into liquids that is passed to the rest of the alimentary canal.

Stomach Layers Adult’s stomach is about ten inches long and is made out of the same layers, longitudinal muscle, circular muscle, connective tissue and mucosa.

Gastric Juice The mucosa of the stomach contains special glands that make a liquid called gastric juice. It produces about 2 quarts everyday.

Parts Of Gastric Juice Gastric juice contains: pepsin, an enzyme that breaks down proteins into smaller molecules called peptides. It also contains hydraulic acid

Which Acid Is Stronger? The acid in your stomach is stronger then car acid.

Stomach Issues The layer of mucus usually protects the stomach from being attacked by gastric juice but sometimes the gastric juice can penetrate the mucus and damage is called Gastric ulcer. If damage continues, blood vessels in your stomach wall will rupture letting blood escape into the stomach.

Stomach Issuses A Perforated ulcer. It occurs if a gastric ulcer eats right through the stomach wall allowing food and digestive juices to escape into the abdomen.
