UTILIZATION OF WASTE PLASTIC IN BLACKTOPPING OF ROADS. FIRST ROAD LAID ON 5TH OCTOBER 2015 AT OLARONGCHU, ABOVE THE WORKSHOP.

SITUATION ANALYSIS Green Road established from 2014 through erstwhile BOIC with borrowings of Nu. 5.4 million. Managing all types of waste plastic from landfill and source segregation and using it as one component in blacktopping roads. Community involvement in collection thus income generation. It’s a proven technology now even in Bhutan. First recycling/up cycling unit in Bhutan. Till date, 280 tonnes of waste plastic have been collected

Opportunity for huge employment generation from grassroots level. Facing severe financial constraints in day to day operation. Affecting expansion plans to cover other Thromdes and Dzongkhags. Approximately 60 tons dry waste in Thimphu alone on daily basis out of which 25% to 30% consist of plastic waste. Working closely with waste managing entities like The Greener Way/Clean City. Full support from major private industries at Pasakha industrial estate with raw materials/ daily 2 tons combined from all industries.

PROGRAMS/ PROJECTS INITIATED BY THE GREEN ROAD SINCE 2014. Blacktopping roads. Landfill management. Reusing and Up cycling. Advocacy. Waste management. The Local Shop.

BROAD STRATEGIC APPROACH TO RGOB’S 12TH FIVE YEAR PLAN. CONSTRUCTING DURABLE ROADS. WASTE ISSUES- Upon Royal Command water and waste has been the top priority. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT FROM GRASSROOT. EMPLOYEMENT. IMPORT SUBSTITUTION.

COLLABORATION WITH DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS. FUNDING SUPPORT TO ESTABLISH A COLLECTION CENTRE OF WASTE PLASTICS. PROCUREMENT OF PLASTIC SHREDDER. 2. JOB EMPLOYEMNT FOR LOW INCOME GROUP OF PEOPLE. SINGLE MOTHERS UNEMPLOYED YOUTHS OF THAT PARTICULAR GEWOG, DZONGKHAG OR THROMDE. WASTE IS EVERYONES RESPONSIBILITY. WHILE PROMOTING YOUR OWN ORGANIZATION, LETS ADVOCATE PEOPLE ABOUT WASTE, SEGREGATION, RE USING, REDUCING AND SO ON.
