Presentation transcript:

Counselor’s Corner November 2018 GUIDANCE LESSONS Pre K students will hear the story How Full is Your Bucket? For Kids by Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer. Students will discuss how unkind words and actions dip into other people’s buckets as well as their own. They will also play a listening game to reinforce this concept. In Kindergarten and First Grade, students will learn about self-control, making good choices, and achieving goals. The age old fable of the tortoise and the hare will be used to discuss these important concepts. After reading and discussing the story, the students will play a game to reinforce these skills. Students will take turns pulling cards that describe a situation. If the description is something that the tortoise might do (i.e. raise your hand and wait to be called on), students will color in one step for the tortoise. If it is something that the hare might do (i.e. rushing through work), students will color one step for the hare. A Growth Mindset Message: “If parents want to give their children a gift, the best thing they can do is teach their children to love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort, and keep on learning. That way, their children don’t have to be slaves of praise. They will have a lifelong way to build and repair their own confidence.” Carol S. Dweck
