Off-pump coronary bypass grafting: how to use the octopus tissue stabilizer  ErikW.L Jansen, MD, PhD, JaapR Lahpor, MD, PhD, Cornelius Borst, MD, PhD, PaulF Gründeman, MD, PhD, JohanJ Bredée, MD, PhD  The Annals of Thoracic Surgery  Volume 66, Issue 2, Pages 576-579 (August 1998) DOI: 10.1016/S0003-4975(98)00477-9

Fig 1 Three types of Octopus Tissue Stabilizer paddles are demonstrated. The straight version is shown attached to the heart model, with both left and right modifications demonstrated. In the center a single version of the offset paddle is demonstrated. To the right, the so-called preformed version is shown. The metal just beyond the plastic handle is malleable. The Annals of Thoracic Surgery 1998 66, 576-579DOI: (10.1016/S0003-4975(98)00477-9)

Fig 2 Application of the Octopus through limited surgical access; (a) via a small anterior thoracotomy on the anterior cardiac wall on either side of the left anterior descending artery, diagonal branch, or both, with one paddle installed via the surgical wound and one via a stab wound that is used for the chest drain afterwards; (b) via a subxiphoid incision to expose the distal right coronary artery and proximal posterior descending artery. The Annals of Thoracic Surgery 1998 66, 576-579DOI: (10.1016/S0003-4975(98)00477-9)

Fig 3 Application of the Octopus through full surgical access: via sternotomy, exposing the left anterior descending artery, diagonal branch, or both (a), distal right coronary or posterior descending artery (b), and obtuse marginal branch (c); via posterior thoracotomy to expose the circumflex artery or its branches and the left anterior descending artery (d). The Annals of Thoracic Surgery 1998 66, 576-579DOI: (10.1016/S0003-4975(98)00477-9)
