Third Edition of the Roman Missal Exploring the Texts of the Third Edition of the Roman Missal

The Introductory Rites And with your spirit…

The Introductory Rites Four KEY moments of the Liturgy Paul’s greeting to various communities (e.g., Galatians, in 2 Timothy, etc.) The ancient homily for Holy Saturday This is the response in almost every other major language

The Introductory Rites THE PENITENTIAL ACT “I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; ”

The Introductory Rites THE GLORIA “We praise you we bless you we adore you we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory Lord God, heavenly King O God, Almighty Father.”

The Introductory Rites THE GLORIA Maintains the poetry found in the Latin; Each phrase builds upon the preceding line; Concerns surrounding musical settings

The Introductory Rites THE COLLECT Sunday, Advent I Grant your faithful, we pray, almighty God, the resolve to run forth to meet your Christ, with righteous deeds at his coming, so that, gathered at his right hand, they may be worthy to possess the heavenly kingdom.

The Liturgy of the Word THE CREED I Believe…

The Liturgy of the Word Changed from the plural to singular; Mirrors the Baptismal Format of the Nicene Creed; Gives one voice to the Liturgical Assembly

The Liturgy of the Word THE CREED Incarnate

The Liturgy of the Word THE CREED Consubstantial

The Liturgy of the Eucharist The Sanctus Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of Hosts

The Liturgy of the Eucharist Calls to mind the visions of Isaiah and John the Evangelist; Calls us to sing God’s glory with all the angelic hosts;

The Liturgy of the Eucharist Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall… (EP II)

The Liturgy of the Eucharist In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the Chalice…

The Liturgy of the Eucharist “Chalice” is the word chosen by the translators; An attempt to highlight the sacrificial character of this vessel, at this moment in the ritual

The Liturgy of the Eucharist Which will be poured out for you and for many…

The Liturgy of the Eucharist The Form of the Sacrament; Maintains the quote from all three synoptic Gospels; An opportunity for Catechesis

The Liturgy of the Eucharist The Mystery of Faith! Connects more closely to “The Word of the Lord” “The Body of Christ”

The Liturgy of the Eucharist “Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.”

The Liturgy of the Eucharist We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again. Or: When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord, Save us, Savior of the world, for by your Cross and Resurrection you have set us free.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word, and my soul shall be healed.

Matthew 8:5-13 When he entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him, saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully." He said to him, "I will come and cure him." The centurion said in reply, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come here,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it."   When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, "Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith. I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the kingdom of heaven… You may go; as you have believed, let it be done for you." And at that very hour (his) servant was healed.

The Concluding Rites Go forth the Mass is ended. Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord. Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.
