The Voyage of the Beagle

Evolution Evolution is the process by which modern organisms have descended from ancient organisms. Scientific Theory – A well-supported testable explanation of phenomena that occurs in the natural world.

Charles Darwin Travelled around the world in 1831. Visited many different continents which was unusual for the time.

What Darwin Saw: Patterned Diversity: Europe, South America and Australia all have temperate grasslands, but the animals are not the same.

What Darwin Saw: Fossils Fossils came in many different kinds. Some were close to living animals, but others obviously did not have living relatives

What Darwin Saw: Galapagos Islands The Galapagos has a wide range of environments that are contained on individual islands. Darwin noticed that land tortoises, marine iguanas and finches varied much more than they did in a similar area of England.

What Darwin Wondered: How did the Galapagos Islands get colonized by animals? Where all of the tortoises, iguanas and finches originally from the same species?
