PROXIMAL TIBIAL #’S. Fractures can be intra-articular or extra-articular. Intra-articular #’s discussed under tibial plateaus. Proximal tibial #’s are caused by severe trauma. There may be closed degloving injuries. There is severe swelling. Blister development and compartment syndrome very common.

Proximal tibial fractures…. The proximal fragment is extended by extensor mechanism. Always exclude vascular injury. Difficult to manage non-operatively. Soft tissue condition dictates the initial or preliminary treatment. The fracture may require ex. Fix. Management early to allow soft tissue healing. The # usually needs some form of surgical intervention. Complications ; can be deduced from the above discussion.
