Cuban Revolution Fulgencio Batista (1901-1973) Military Dictator of Cuba from 1952-1959. Led a corrupt government. Made a fortune dealing with American Mafia. Used censorship and secret police to quell discontent. Supported by U.S.

Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro A prominent lawyer that stood up for the least fortunate. Did not support the corrupt government. Joined the Cuban People’s Party in 1947. Arrested in 1953 for a failed coup attempt.
