Why do different people see the same image differently? What causes you to focus your attention on certain parts of an image over others?

Mental Constructs (Our understanding of the world.) Our Experiences Mental Constructs (Our understanding of the world.) Our Perceptions

Now for a little reader’s theatre … “The Blind Men and the Elephant”

What is the value of having diverse perspectives? What are the limitations of seeing the world in one particular way?

THINK, PAIR, SHARE THINK: Think about how you view the world. On your own, make an identity chart for yourself that shows the factors that influence your world view. MY WORLD VIEW

Having trouble … ? Value Statements Everyone has a set of beliefs that they use to make sense of the world. This is called your world view. Read through the value statements on your worksheet. Decide where you are on the spectrum of agreeing or disagreeing with them. These types of value statements can help you have a better understanding of your own world view.

THINK, PAIR, SHARE PAIR: Pair up with the person beside you and discuss the factors in your life that influence your world view. Are they same? Are they different? SHARE: Let’s talk about it as a class. How do you view the world? What influences your world view?

Reflection Journal Entry How do you view the world? Why do you see the world in a certain way? What shaped (or continues to shape) your world view? What are your thoughts on living in a world with diverse perspectives and differing world views? Why do you think we are talking about world view in Social Studies? Why does it matter, why should we care?
