Writing Equations of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines Get out your purple sheet and get ready for the warm-up Have your notes out to be checked

Warm-up Using point slope form, write the equations for the following lines. A line perpendicular to y = 2 3 x – 6 and going through the point (-3, 4) A line parallel to y = -4x + 13 and going through the point (2, -6)

Just a reminder… Point slope form – y – y1 = m(x – x1) Parallel lines have slopes that are the same Perpendicular lines have slopes that are opposite reciprocals Ex: 4 5 and - 5 4

Closure Using point slope form, write the equations for the following lines A line parallel to y = - 2 5 x – 7 and going through the point (-7, -3) A line perpendicular to y = -6x + 3 and going through the point (1, 4)
