There are three different kinds of acknowledgement through referencing. In-text referencing Footnotes and Endnotes Reference List/Bibliography
In-text referencing WHEN? When quoting the work of another person. Identifying the ideas, texts, diagrams, tables and images of another person. This includes: - direct quotes/sentences quoting just a few words using the ideas of someone else in your own words HOW?
Footnotes and Endnotes WHEN? Usually used in literature, the arts and history. Can be used along with or as an alternative to in-text referencing. HOW?
Reference List/Bibliography WHEN? A reference list is a complete list of all the publications you refer to in your work. A bibliography is the same as the reference list but also includes publications not directly referred to in your work. HOW? It is a comprehensive list placed at the end of your work.
Creating your Reference List/Bibliography Publisher, Place Author Date Title The example below shows a full reference to a source with the basic elements in bold. The references should be listed in alphabetical order. 1 Author’s name: surname followed by first name. 2 Date of publication. 3 Title of publication. 4 Publisher. 5 Place of publication.
