Myths About The Bible Few Will Go To Hell

Rev. 20:14-15 (NASB) “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire

Hell Is A Real Place In 1962 a survey of 700 preachers found that 34% rejected the idea of future punishment for the wicked In 1972 another survey found that 71% of ministerial students rejected a belief in Heaven or Hell A survey conducted in 1981 revealed that 50% of theology faculty believe in the existence of hell (61% of Roman Catholics, and 34% of Protestants)! Do you think this has improved?

History behind Hell The word translated as “Hell” is “Gehenna.” This was the valley of the son of Hinnom on the western side of Jerusalem It was the place for the worship of Molech (2 Chron. 28:3; 33:6; Jer. 2:23; 7:31) Josiah declared the valley unclean to the Jews (2 Kgs. 23:10) It became a dump where trash and carcasses were burned and represented a place of despair and disgust

Hell Is A Real Place Connection of soul with Heaven and Hell The soul is eternal (Matt. 10:28; Rev. 20:4; Mk. 9:42-48) “Destroy” does not mean annihilation “The idea is not extinction but ruin, loss, not of being, but of well-being” (Vine) The soul is bound for Heaven or Hell (Matt. 25:34, 41, 46)

Some consistent conclusions are demanded: They are either all figurative or all literal They are either all fictional or all real The seriousness of this subject is brought out by the statement of Jesus in Matthew 7:13. It is sobering, and to some surprising, to realize that many are on the road to Hell!

The Inhabitants Of Hell Some believe that Hell is sparsely inhabited They believe Satan and his angels will be there (Matt. 25:41) Others opine that only the most heinous of history will be there (Hitler or Judas, for example) The Bible reveals something different. As stated previously, many will be there (Matt. 7:13)

Those who live according to the lust of the flesh (Gal. 5:19-21; 1 Cor Those who are not added to the church (Acts 2:47) Some religious people (Matt. 7:21-23) Hypocrites (Matt. 23:33) Disobedient (2 Thess. 1:7-9) People not in the book of life (Rev. 20:15) Sinners (Rev. 21:8) Backsliders (Heb. 10:26-31; 2 Peter 2:20-22)
