Resilience Resilience is the capacity to face, overcome and ultimately be strengthened by adversities and challenges “Resilience is learnable and teachable and as we learn we increase the range of strategies available to us when things get difficult” Jackie Gerstein, Ed. D.

Resilience Key factors of resilience include Bouncing back Managing Emotions See failure as a form of helpful feedback Taking 100% personal responsibility Resourcefulness Problem solving skills

Resilience and growth mindset Teachers focusing on developing a growth mindset can improve resilience by nourishing the belief that ability can be developed reframing challenges and setbacks normalising mistakes and failure as learning opportunities encouraging and rewarding persistence and effort identifying alternative ways of achieving success

Resilience and growth mindset strategies Strategies include: The Learning Pit Sharing a consistently clear message that mistakes are welcome Create an ‘unstuck’ list Value the process of learning rather than focusing on results Share stories of successful people who have failed yet succeeded Create a safe environment for learners to reflect and develop their critical thinking
