Welcome to Primary 4 Thursday 7th September 2017

Curricular Areas Throughout P4 your child will study the following subjects:- Language Mathematics Literacy and Numeracy across learning Social Studies Science Technologies Expressive Arts Health and Wellbeing French Religious and Moral Education

Language Every pupil in Primary 4 will follow programmes of study for:- Listening and Talking Reading Writing French Please remember to sign in.

Mathematics In P4, we all focus on the following areas:- Problem-solving and enquiry Information handling Number, money and measure Shape, position and movement

Social Studies This session we will learn about the following:- People, past events and societies – The Vikings People, place and environment – The River Clyde which will be linked to our Technology topic, Bridges. People, society, economy and business – Current Affairs, with a focus on jobs. Please remember to sign in.

Homework In Primary 4 all homework tasks are written in homework diaries. Each night there will be a small amount of Language and Maths. Occasionally pupils will be asked to complete a piece of homework related to a class topic. Please ensure that the homework diary is checked and signed each night. This is a useful means of communication. Homework shouldn’t take more than 15 – 20 minutes a night. If there are any concerns regarding homework please note in the diary or contact the school.

Homework Homework may be marked in a variety of ways: Class discussion and pupil marking their own jotter – Self-assessment strategies Class discussion and peer marking jotter work – Peer-assessment strategies Teacher marking with assessment comment Class teacher will review completed homework activities to ensure homework is completed to agreed standard.

Homework Homework will usually be differentiated to meet the needs of all pupils. Please contact the class teacher if you have any concerns regarding homework. Please read Parental Booklets for further information on your child’s current level. Please remember to sign in.

Supporting your child at home Here are some of the ways you can support your child at home: Encourage reading for enjoyment in the house. Why not download stories from the internet to listen to? Regular discussion about current affairs/environmental issues. Encourage your child to be a responsible citizen.

Information Leaflets There are several leaflets available for parents with information about different curricular areas. These are: General Homework Numeracy and Maths Reading Skills If you would like a copy of any of these, please collect from the Street area where curriculum specialist staff will be happy to advise.
