MEIOSIS (textbook section 3.1 pg 74).  Sexual reproduction produces offspring that is genetically similar, but different from the parents. This is accomplished.
Mitosis vs. Meiosis. What is the difference Mitosis is asexual reproduction. Does not produce a new organism. Mitosis is asexual reproduction. Does not.

Presentation transcript:

MITOSIS & MEIOSIS INFO

There are 2 types of cells BODY cells SEX cells (also called GAMETES)

Human body cells have 46 chromosomes (23 pairs) 46 Skin cell

Human body cells are called DIPLOID (2 of every chromosome) 1 from MOM & 1 from DAD

Human sex cells have 23 chromosomes (egg & sperm cells)

Human sex cells are called HAPLOID (1 of every chromosome) 2 have to combine to make a baby

MITOSIS makes BODY cells You start with 1 cell and end with 2 The offspring are GENETICALLY IDENTICAL to the parent

MEIOSIS makes SEX cells You start with 1 cell and end with 4 The offspring are GENETICALLY DIFFERENT to the parent
