3.6 Learning Theories- Social Learning What is Observational learning? When we begin to play a sport we aim to copy the behaviour of our heroes Coaches can use this knowledge to ensure that desired behaviours are copied Behaviour and demonstrations are more likely to be copied if they are consistent

Observation For an effective observation to take place, the learner must: View a significant other Most effective when performer is of similar or slightly better ability Have a Vicarious Experience Imagining yourself performing as the model you are observing

Bandura’s model of observational learning Attention Make the demonstration bright, loud and attractive Retention Break information down so that it can be recalled, use of mental rehearsal Motor reproduction Make sure that the performer is capable of doing the task Motivation Use rewards and praise to encourage success
