Questions that enable learning Day 3: Questions that enable learning

MIDPOINT PROBLEM (10 min. max) Share solutions/different approaches to responding to the conjecture. What mathematics would students need to know for the task? What are some likely responses/ misconceptions that may emerge from student responses?

Transcript task: “Tom” and “Lyle” Read each transcript individually, and Identify the mathematical concepts that actually emerge in each class. After each person has had a chance to finish their reading, share / collect the mathematics found in each class . Put on poster paper. Poster up by 11:25 

The questions of “Tom” and “Lyle” Find each question/prompt in each class. How do you think that question impacted student learning? Example: Ms. C said: “ Hmm.. What do you see?”  Students work and successfully prove Fermat’s Last Theorem.

Whole Group: What is a purpose of questioning in Tom’s Class? Use a specific example from your discussion What is a purpose of questioning in Lyle’s Class? Use a specific example from your discussion.
