Colossians 2:8-15

The Old Testament Law Has Been Taken Away, Abrogated, or Made Void Some Law Was Taken Away The Identity of That Law? Why Was it Taken Away?

Bible Plainly States Some Law Was Taken Away Colossians 2:14 “taken it out of the way” Hebrews 7:12 “change of the law” Hebrews 10:9 “takes away first” 2 Corinthians 3:5-11 “what is passing away” Ephesians 2:14 “broken down the middle wall of separation” Jeremiah 31:31 “a new covenant”

What Law Was Taken Away? 2 Corinthians 3:7 “written and engraved on stones” “glory was passing away” Exodus 31:18 “two tablets of stone…” Exodus 34:29 “tablets of the Testimony” Hebrews 8:8,9 “a new covenant” Romans 7:4-7 “having died to what we were held by” “the law had said, “You shall not covet.””

What Law Was Taken Away? The Law that was Taken Away include the TEN COMMANDMENTS given on Mt. Sinai. Deuteronomy Chapter 5 2 Corinthians 3:13 “the end of what was passing away {KJV “that which is ABOLISHED”}”

Why Did Christ Take Away The Old Testament Law? It was “Faulty” – Hebrews 8:7,8 Only to last “Until the Seed Should Come” – Galatians 3:19- 25 “the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” “after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor”

Why Did Christ Take Away The Old Testament Law? It Was “In The Way” – Colossians 2:14 “was against us…contrary to us…taken it out of the way…nailed it to the cross.” Was For The Jews Only – Deuteronomy 5:1-3 Ephesians 2:12 “strangers from the covenants of promise”

Why Did Christ Take Away The Old Testament Law? It Was “A Yoke of Bondage” – Acts 15:10 “yoke on the neck of the disciples” Galatians 5:1 “do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage” Because He Fulfilled It- Matthew 5:17,18 “I did not come to destroy but to fulfill”

Why Did Christ Take Away The Old Testament Law? Its Sacrifices Could Not Take Away Sin – Hebrews 10:4 “not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.” Could Not Give a Perfect Conscience – Hebrews 9:9-14 “cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God”

Why Did Christ Take Away The Old Testament Law? To Reconcile Jew and Gentile – Ephesians 2:11-16 “broken down the middle wall of separation… abolished …the enmity… the law of commandments contained in ordinances… reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity”

Why Did Christ Take Away The Old Testament Law? It Was Weak Through The Flesh – Romans 8:1-4 “what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh” Hebrews 7:18,19 “annulling former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness… law made nothing perfect….”

Why Did Christ Take Away The Old Testament Law? It Would Not Produce Righteousness – Galatians 2:21 “if righteousness comes through the law, Christ died in vain.” Could Not Give Life – Galatians 3:21 “if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law.”

Why Did Christ Take Away The Old Testament Law? It Could Not Justify – Acts 13:39 “and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.”

Why Would Anyone Want to Try and Serve God Under a Law That Has Been Taken Away? Hebrews 8:6 “Better Covenant” “Better Promises” Trying to be Justified by the law is to “fall from grace.” Galatians 5:1- 4
