The Writing Process

There are five steps in the writing process.

1. Prewriting 2. Rough Draft 3. Edit 4. Final Draft 5. Publish

Prewriting- Getting your thoughts down on paper *brainstorm (Free write, outline, notes, graphic organizer, or list) * organize (mark out any ideas that you don’t Like)

Rough Draft- Putting your ideas and thoughts together in sentences and paragraphs

*proofreading symbols Edit/Revise- Rewriting or rearranging sentences to make sense and checking for errors. *proofreading symbols

Final Draft- Rewriting your draft into its perfect form.

Publish- Sharing your work publishing, speaking, handing in for a grade

Thesis Statement A thesis statement is the main sentence in the first paragraph of your essay. It states the main topic and subtopics you will be writing about in the next few paragraphs. Think of it as a roadmap for the rest of the essay.
