FCCPTA Advocacy Update Working Together to Preserve a World-Class County

First Annual Advocacy Day December 4, 2017 Location – Gatehouse Administration Center Objectives Help build PTA members relationships with their local elected officials Provide opportunities for PTA members to tell their stories about their students and schools Provide opportunities for PTA members to tell local elected officials what is needed at their schools Well attended by local officials and PTA members and partners

Virginia PTA Annual Meeting/Legislative Conference and PTA Day at the General Assembly January 27-29 at Virginia Crossings Hotel and Conference Center in Glen Allen January 27-28 – Annual Meeting/Advocacy Conference January 29 – PTA Day at the General Assembly Register at www.vapta.org Objectives: Help build relationships between PTA members and their state elected officials Educate PTA members concerning issues and legislation being considered in General Assembly Provide opportunities for PTA members from all over the Commonwealth to share their stories and learn best practices

National PTA 2018 Legislative Conference National PTA 2018 Legislative Conference – March 13-15, 2018 – Arlington, VA and Capitol Hill, Washington, DC – Register at www.pta.org. PTA members from all across the country and Europe will be able to meet, engage, and share best practices. Members will be able to meet, engage, and build relationships with their federal elected officials on Capitol Hill Members will learn more about new federal education law - Every Student Succeeds Act – implementation Learn about other issues of interest, including Statewide Family Engagement Centers, career and technical education reauthorization, child nutrition.

NOVA District PTA Event – February 6 NOVA District PTA awarded a National PTA grant to host Safer Internet National Day on Tuesday, February 6!  Only 1 of 4 states to host this event Grant provided by LifeLock and their Smart Talk program offered to PTA members across the nation.  Panel forum at Luther Jackson Middle School auditorium at 7 p.m. with complimentary dinner being served at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.  Registration details will be provided in early January More info at www.novadistrictpta.org
