Bain Buzz #8 abain@stclair.k12.il.us www.msbain.weebly.com Thursday, October 8th, 2009 abain@stclair.k12.il.us www.msbain.weebly.com 618.476.7100 ext: 1561 Hello! We all now know the differences between all 4 Seasons. This concept is something we, as adults, take for granted. However, this week your child really got to know what makes a season, well, a season. I am keeping most of the work done this week for artifacts at conferences. Since we are almost now in the full swing of Fall, we will be studying Autumn more in depth next week in addition to Halloween activities. Donations I am hoping to make 6 scarecrows (one per table) next week and am in need of children’s clothing! If you have any old pants/shirts/t-shirts you are trying to get rid of, please send them in! I will need to know by Tuesday in case I need to run to Goodwill for some scarecrow clothes. The Red Ribbon Committee is in need of 2-liter bottles for Red Ribbon Week. If you have any, please send them in. Baby Jars will help to organize art supplies In the Classroom As you know, the end of the first quarter is just around the corner. Report cards will come home October 22-23 before our conferences on October 29-30 (I will send home a conference sign-up sheet at a later time). Report cards in kindergarten do not include grades. They are used to tell a student’s progress to his or her teachers, administrators and parents . I will be testing the students throughout next week and the following week. They will be tested on writing their numbers 1-10 (if a # is written backwards, it’s considered wrong), ABC identification for capital and lower case letters, your phone number (address will be tested 2nd quarter, but make sure you are practicing!), and their emotional behavior. I have attached a phone number sheet to this Buzz. Please have your child write the number you would them to memorize on this page and send it back on Tuesday. I have noticed that some students have different numbers memorized than what I have on my class list. Specials Tuesdays – Library (bring library books!) Please do not forget to send library books on Tuesdays. Important Dates Millstadt Movies in the Park is this Saturday at 7:00 pm. Millstadt Village Park is showing Aliens vs. Monsters. No School Monday! “In 1492, Columbus Sailed the Ocean Blue!” Please turn in your Eckert’s field trip money by October 14th. FYI- we are going to the Millstadt Eckert’s, not the one in Belleville. Friend of the Week This week’s friend of the week will Roger Wolf. Roger is a wonderful role model in the classroom. He is always on top of his work, and he is eager to lend a helping hand to his classmates. He is a wonderful helper to me, and he is fun to talk to. Roger is always kind to his classmates, and his smile lights up a room. Great job, Roger! We are eager to learn about you next week! Remember, when it is your child’s turn to be Friend of the week, I ask that you bring pictures, favorite things (we have had stuffed animals and favorite candy), some favorite books to read throughout the week, and the yellow “About Me” paper (which I have most of, but if you haven’t turned it in, please do so soon!). ________________________________________________ Thank you so much to the parents coming for center time. You are truly a great big help! Next week, I will start sending home “homework.” Homework will be in the form of little paper books that we make in class. Your child is to read this book with you every night – they are in correlation to our phonics work. So far, we have learned to read and write “L” “O” “G” “H” and “T.” Please send the book back every day so we can read them in class too! Also, please initial the books each night with the date on the back so I know your child has been practicing  ***HAVE A WONDERFUL 4 DAY WEEKEND!!!***
