The skatepark from the future: XCNR Skate Griffin O’Conor 3rd Period

Post industrial society The development that follows after Industrialization. We are currently living in a society that is post industrial, since over 50 percent of the jobs are service centered. Post industrialization allows entrepreneurs and engineers to creat experiences in entertainment and expression that never would have been possible 50 years ago.

a skate park warehouse This is not your average, city-designed skate park. This is a customized experience with multiple levels of difficulty (think of the color scale for difficulty in skiing/snowboarding parks) that allows anyone and everyone to enjoy themselves, even if they’ve never ridden a skateboard before. Lessons will be a service offered in the hollowed out airplane hangar that has sections based on your skill level. Basic “runs” will act like a bunny slope, a flat plane at a very small incline. The most extreme runs will include an x-games like ramp reaching 90 degrees at the highest point of the slope.

The vision My hope for this skatepark is that it will be a place where kids or all ages can come and blow off some steam and forget about, say, a tough situation at home. Adopting a new passion is lifechanging, and if one kid finds that skateboarding is his/her passion after visiting this facility, then I’ll see this as a success. With all of the negativity in the world, along with the increasing rates obesity in young people, I hope that XCNR Skate will be a light among darkness, and promote health, peace, and self improvement.

Design The 20,000 squarefoot warehouse won’t need to be too tall, since most of the ramps and bowls will be carved out of cement on the floor The building will have three sections, based on difficulty level (beginner, intermediate, pro) Every section will have ramps that suit the needs of the skateboarders

details The entrance will be three sets of sliding glass doors that will be able to handle high traffic levels on one side of the building. Emergency exits will be in every corner of the warehouse, Restrooms will be by the entrance.

Why? Add my design to any major metropolis center and it will immediately become a tourist attraction. This unique and groundbreaking idea in action sports will appeal to the consumer because we are taking the exclusiveness out of skateboarding. Anyone can come and try this, any age (6 and up), and skill level, and any economic background (it’s 10 dollars a pass).
