The Periodic Table Wednesday 2/5/14

Periodic Table—table where elements are organized by increasing atomic number (protons) Originally organized by atomic mass by Dmitri Mendeleev in the late 1800s (BUT some elements were out of order) Henry Mosely arranged the table by atomic number in 1913.

The Periodic Table is arrange by… Groups and Periods

Groups—vertical columns of elements with similar properties Groups—vertical columns of elements with similar properties. Numbered 1-18. Elements in the same group have the same number of electrons in their outer shell

Periods—horizontal rows of elements that contain increasing numbers of protons and electrons. Numbered 1-17.

Your Job Cut out the pieces for the Candy Periodic Table. Put them in an envelope (use the one you had for the timeline if you can find it!) Otherwise, I will give you one, but hold on to it next time!
