Making Connections: Creating assignments across Grades and Curriculum Investigating the The American Dream with student populations of 2016 Grades 5-12

Rationale/Literature/Brainstorm Why the American Dream? What is National Identity? What have we learned from Duffy’s Cut Immersion? Why across the Curriculum? (See Lit Review) What does the literature tell us about integrating disciplines especially today in a multifaceted, constantly changing, global study body? What do our teaching experiences tell us? History links all disciplines Debra Dickerson and The Great White Way (starting point)

Common Ground All teach recent immigrants –many grades Many students who are third or fourth generation Americans have no connection to their own family’s immigration story Each of us teach something different: Composition, Synthesis and Collaboration, History, Physical Ed, Health, and English. Designing adaptable assignments with Duffy’s Cut as a possible starting point

Building a Unit ENGAGEMENT, ENGAGEMENT, ENGAGEMENT—SELL THE MATERIAL Starter assignments leading to a bigger research effort. First person assignments

Parting Words/Reflection Review of the literature will be available in our folder along with the overview of the assignments. Collective Reflection: Penn and Teller Idea.
