September progress reflection By Sean Humphrey
How I collaborated with my mentor this month This month I collaborated with my mentor by talking about the beginning of my project. My mentor and I talked about the amount of work time needed to successfully finish this project. We went over what I will need help from him and what I will be able to accomplish on my own. I introduced to him exactly what I intend to do. I also told him that my song is still up in the air, It could be a band arrangement of a other song , or it could be completely original. Basically I talked about how I am to start writing my song
What I have learned so far This month I learned about the basic elements of a song. I learned that to begin you have to figure out what sort of story you want your song to tell. Then you want to pick the instruments you think would best display the mood you want to set for your song. The melody should go to the instruments important to the mood of the song. The harmonies in turn would go to the left over instruments.
To come up with the main idea of my song, I am using my instruments to play melodies and figure out what I might use for my song
In the very beginning I tried to write a concept for a melody In the very beginning I tried to write a concept for a melody. It may not look pretty but it’s a start
My goals for October In October I intend to beginning learning the aspects of the other instruments. I will meet with some friends who have agreed to help me learn the basics of their instruments. I will talk with my mentor Mr. C.B about other instruments that my friends don’t play. I will learn the key signatures and decide which is best for my song. Finally I will put some basics of my song on official nice looking staff paper instead of sloppily drawn music on notebook paper.
