Alexander Hamilton Born in British West Indies Lived with a single mom, poor, started working very young Sent to college by his boses Represents NY in Continental Congress First Secretary of the Treasury (he’s on the ten dollar bill!) Promoted a national bank, tariffs (tax on imported goods), pro-industry Killed in a duel by then Vice President Aaron Burr in 1804
