Fun Facts and Attractions University of Chicago- the campus is situated in Hyde Park, it aided in gentrification of the neighborhood Museum of Science and Industry- science museum situated by Lake Michigan and Lake Shore Drive, In Hyde Park Oriental Institute- museum on University of Chicago campus of ancient middle eastern artifacts with very pure air to preserve the artifact Robie House- Frank Lloyd Wright the architect designed this house The Snail Thai Cuisine- there is a variety of resturants in Hyde Park, The Snail Thai Cuisine is one we went to for lunch Public parks- there is Harold Washington Park and Nichols Park in the neighborhood

History Paul Cornell- founder 1853 he purchased the land that is now Hyde Park Named after the same area in London After 1871 fire residential development increased Arrival of southern African Americans during the great migration lead to many areas changing from primarily white to primarily black In recent years the areas around Hyde Park have experienced growth and development, could be due to the University of Chicago Racial dividing lines have become fluid On the right is a historical sight we saw while travelling to Hyde Park- Garfield Blvd Overpass

Directions We got on the Red Line to 95th/Dan Ryan at the Granville stop and transferred at Roosevelt to the Green Line to Cottage Grove and got off at the Garfield stop From the Garfield stop we took the 55 bus east to University of Chicago campus and we got off at the intersection of 55th street and Lake Park

Social Justice, Privilege, and Oppression We noticed at the bus station that there were these murals on the wall Example of speaking out against gender oppression In history, Hyde Park was primarily white, but changed demographics when segregation ended University of Chicago did a large neighborhood revamp, forcing lower income out, changed demographics to mostly white in certain areas of Hyde Park, the privilege of the wealthier people prevailed

Reflections Through this experience we each recognized different viewpoints we have on the world due to our exposure to different places we went that have different culture
