If you know how to write like this, everyone will do what you want! Being Persuasive… If you know how to write like this, everyone will do what you want!

Writing a Persuasive Essay You have a very strong opinion FOR or AGAINST an issue. You are trying to convince your audience (the reader) of your opinion. Many people write persuasive essays to the local newspaper, or to the government in hopes of changing the world around them.

Your Essay’s Format Intro Paragraph: Introduce the topic Give a few different view points End paragraph with your opinion. (thesis statement)

Body Paragraph(s): Your reasons why you feel the way that you do. Your arguments should be trying to convince the reader to agree with you You should include historical facts, and have 2-4 reasons why you feel the way you do. 3) Conclusion Paragraph: State your opinion again; end the essay.

Use a “hook”… The introduction has a "hook or grabber" to catch the reader's attention: Opening with an unusual detail: (Did you know that Texas was its own country for nine years?) 2. Opening with a strong statement: (Going to war with Great Britain will be catastrophic for the U.S.A.!)

3. Opening with a Statistic or Fact: Sometimes a statistic or fact will add emphasis or interest to your topic. (The Cherokee people were forced to leave their homeland of Georgia.) 4. Opening with a Question. (Have you ever wondered why most Native Americans live west of the Mississippi River?) 5. Opening with an Exaggeration or Outrageous Statement. (The Indian Removal Act will help the Indians to become prosperous members of our country!)
