Soft Rain Annotation quiz

Choose 5 How is the nursery decorated? Why does the dog die? What happens to the dog’s remains? How did the people die? The people did not know they would die, how do you know this? How does the house catch on fire? State one specific way the house tries to save itself.

Purpose of Personification: To make the house seem human What is the tone of the house in the beginning of the story(up till 2:15) ? Give one data to back up your answer. What’s the tone of the house in the middle of the story( 2:15-10:00 pm)? Give one data to back up your answer. What’s the tone of the house at the end of the story? Give one data to back up your answer( 10pm till end)

Theme What’s missing from the story? Humans 2. What is present? Technology 3. What’s the purpose of any technology? It’s a tool to make life easier for people 4. What is the ultimate technology in this story? Nuclear bomb 5. What happened to the people? Nuclear war/bomb killed them 6. What’s the message/theme? Warning humans that the same technology that can advance society can also destroy it.

Assignment: In your group, you will each create a claim/ data /warrant chart. The claims are on the following slide. Choose 1 set to work with These are deep analytical questions, and therefore you need deep analytical answers ( like what you did with the Harrison Bergeron charts) so DISCUSS the answers with your partners. You will be graded on the depth of your answer. ( warrant) For the warrant: 1. Explain how the data proves the claim 2. How does it prove the theme. Easily 3-5 sentences.
