“The Story of an Hour” Compose a CLAIM – SUPPORT – EXPLANATION paragraph that answers either of the following questions: HOW DOES THIS STORY SHOW A FEMALE CHARACTER STRUGGLING AS A RESULT OF A MALE-DOMINATED LIFE/SOCIETY? HOW DOES THIS STORY SHOW A CONFLICT BETWEEN GENDERS, PERHAPS WITH ONE GENDER “WINNING” IN THE END? You must have a claim, even if a simple one, such as: “This story shows the conflict between males and females in a few ways.” “This story clearly shows a female character who struggles greatly due to life in a male- dominated society.” You must have support from the story, in other words, AT LEAST ONE QUOTE! You should develop your explanation of how this quote shows conflict between genders and also perhaps how one gender “triumphs” over the other.
