Creative Writing Prompts Science Fiction/Dystopian Fiction Today’s Format: You will begin three different timed prompts today. I will provide “starting” directions and “literary” directions for each prompt. Your focus today is to explore how you would begin authoring each story.

Set 1 Starting Directions: Choose your prompt. Starting Directions: For this prompt, you are to begin with a description of the setting surrounding the protagonist in that moment. Literary Directions: In your description, provide detailed imagery to help the reader experience what you’re imagining. What is the protagonist seeing, smelling, hearing, feeling, tasting?

Punctuate properly Reveal characters’ personalities though their words and your narration Literary Directions: In your dialogue demonstrate the use of italicized words to add meaning to the conversation.

Whatever she feeds the system, the population believes. 4. An extra hour occurs at midnight, but only a handful of people experience it. This is called the Dark Hour.
