Improv Part 2

Terms we need to know Offer: an action or dialogue to initiate the advancement of a scene Accepting: receiving an offer with agreement Blocking: denying another player’s offer

Now let’s practice accepting offers!

Yes, Let’s! Everyone stand in a circle. We will go around the circle, providing an offer of an idea. Everyone in the class must respond with, “Yes, Let’s” and accept the offer enthusiastically.

Yes, And… Everyone stand in a circle. I will start with a statement: It is a beautiful day out. The person to my right will say, “yes, and…” and add something on. (Perhaps, “yes, and let’s go to the beach!”) The game will end when we’ve gone around the circle, adding new offers!

WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Superheroes Improv I need two volunteers. Volunteer A needs to start doing a simple action (ex. Brushing teeth). Volunteer B enters scene and says, “What are you doing?” Volunteer A continues to do the action but says something completely different (ex. Licking my elbow) Volunteer B must accept that offer and pretend to lick his/her elbow The class will continue to enter the scene until all are in the scene.

Journal #2 For five minutes, write on this topic: Reflect on today. Is it difficult to accept other people’s offers? Why or why not? What did you learn about improv today?
