Biography Born in Wisconsin, parents were diary farmers Wanted to paint from her teen years Studied in Chicago Gave up painting because she did not feel talented with the techniques she had been taught Found a new teacher/mentor who encouraged her to paint in a different way Now known as “the mother of American modernism” Paints with lines, colors, energy Moved to New Mexico later in her life, which inspired many later paintings
